Southern Snowfall 2015!!

It finally happened!  We got some real snow in Georgia!

 It started off slow...at first.
Mya and Reesie playing in the dusting...

Even Salem the kitty wanted in on the snow action.

Then, as night time came, so did the heavy snow.

By the next morning, February 26th, we had about 6-8 inches of snow.  Reesie LOVES snow!  Even more than Mya!  CoCo (directly above) isn't too keen on anything that gets her paws wet.  So, she did what had to be done and wanted back inside!

She likes to stick her whole head into the snow.  Not sure why...Could be a Dork thing!

"I don't like this!"  Says CoCo Bean!  She tiptoes into the snow.

 Action shot!

Here is our girl Mya...enjoying the snow.  Since she's gotten older (8), she isn't as fast in the snow as she used to be.  I know the feeling.

Thank you all for sharing our "big" snow day!  So, until next year!  Hahahaha!

Throwback Thursday: Jack's Gotcha Story

Today's day isn't special.  It's just another day in the life of the Painter Pack.  But there has been something on my mind...someone...for the last few days.

Our old man...Jack.

It has been 8 months since he crossed the bridge at the age of 13 1/2.  He was our "starter kit"...My son's first real dog.  My first read dog since I was a child.

Jack could be a handful at times...he wasn't the kind of dog you took to a dog park.  He was very dominate...well, until he met Miss CoCo Bean, our little shepherd mix.  She taught him that it was HER job to be top dog.  And I guess he was ok with that.
Sometimes we called him Moose...because he was so big and always "there"...everywhere!  These pics are from a time before the dreaded cancer began to ravage his body.
Jack was the greatest guard dog ever...No one...and I mean no one got past him.
Truthfully, no one dared to try!
And Jack loved the snow.  This was the last snow he got to see, just a couple of years ago.
I know that a lot of people do not have the time to read blogs anymore...us included.  But I want to share Jack's gotcha story.
My son was 8...and he wanted a dog.  So his grandpa found a "free to a good home" ad.  Now, I had explained that we were not ready for a dog just yet...maybe in about 3 months or so.  We had just moved and money was tight.  But, I told my son we would go "look"...just "look".  We pulled up to a house that had Jack and another dog (a husky) on chains in the yard.  It was a fenced yard so I'm not sure why they were on chains.  My son jumps out of the car and runs to the dogs.  Being mom, I jumped out of the car to make sure he would be safe...and I left my car door open.

Soon as the owner let Jack off his chain, that dog, 6 months old, ran out the gate and jumped into my car.  That was it.  He was ours.  He refused to get out of the car.  It all happened so fast, I really didn't have a choice!  And that dog rode to his new home in the floorboard, under my son's feet.

He was my baby for 13 years.

We had our beloved Jack longer than the doctors thought...but it will never be long enough.  In the end, it was difficult to help him keep his dignity.  So we knew it was time.

There have been many days recently that both my son and I have thought we saw Jack out of the corner of our eye.  Sometimes it was nothing...or a pillow...or even our Reesie Cup just curled up.  Reesie reminds us of Jack...the same Labradork traits!  But she isn't Jack.  There will never be another.  And I guess that is ok...he was one of a kind.

So today, we are remember our Moose...the huge, goofy, and sometimes ornery, dorky lab boy that jumped into my car and found his forever home.

We miss and love you sweet boy.

The Smartest Dog in the House!

Happy 2015!  I thought our first post would be something fun and lighthearted!

This is our Reesie Cup, aka Labradork.  Of all our pups in the house, past and present, she is the only one who ever figured out how to use the ice machine in the refrigerator.  Not even our old man Jack did this...he knew ice came from here, but didn't quite figure it all out.

So, sit back and relax.  Enjoy this brief but riveting movie!

PS...we don't use the ice machine for our human ice anymore.  Instead, we open the door and take it from the inside...the joys of having a smart dog.  :)

Something in the Wall!!!

Salem on the left!!  Mya Boo Boo on the right!!!

Why you ask?  Because....there is something in the wall!

Mya sniffs the entire length of the wall...

As you can see...she is the ONLY pup that is interested.  Reesie couldn't care less!!

Of course, Salem will not be outdone!  She is a cat after all!  Hunting is what she does best!  And Mya won't get the jump on her!

Salem is able to fit into those tight spots that Mya Boo Boo cannot.

 Mya stands guard...just in case........

 .......something might run out.......

And Mya proves she can get into those tight spots as well!!!

Part of her....anyway.   I think Salem is laughing at MBB.

So, what is in the wall you ask?  Darn if I know.  But it isn't a "mouse"....it sounds HUGE and makes a LOUD squealing noiseI'm terrified something is going to bust out of the wall like in a horror movie!  I'm not sure if the landlord will do anything...but for now, we allow MBB to stand guard.  Her and Salem stand between us and the "big bad"....

We are doomed.

November Freeze!!

Good morning furiends!!  Mya Boo Boo here!  As the resident Siberian Husky and leader of the pack, I feel it is my duty to show you how I spent my freezing day!!!

Of course, this is after running for hours and hours out in the 15 degree (F) weather!  We did not get any snows..boohoo...but the cold was wonderfuls!

I likes to lay on da couch because it is directly in front of the warming machine mama calls "heater"...and I get to stretch out!  So, here's to cold weather and maybe next time, snows!!!

Mya Boo Boo

Note from Pack Mom:
Just so you know, MBB spent a total of 10 minutes outside before she was ready to come in...I'm not sure she is Siberian!  Either that or she has been spoiled way too much!

We miss you, Jack. Happy Birthday.

Today would have been Jack's 14th birthday.  Sadly, he did not make it.  He left us in June of this year, 2014.
But his wonderful memory is still with us, each day!

Jack loved to find unusual places to sleep!

Jack loved snow!

Jack loved just being...

In his prime, Jack was a labradork force to be reckoned with!  He was our guard dog...our faithful friend...our snuggle buddy.

Jack was a proud dog.

He loved and protected his humans.

And sometimes acted like a rock star.

But no matter what...he was our Jack.  Samarai Jackson "Jack" Painter, you are very much missed...and very much still loved.
